Cris and Rodrigo’s elopement in Portugal took place on June 16, 2023, at the InterContinental Cascais – Estoril Hotel. What they do not know, and perhaps never imagined, is how deeply this wedding was, quite literally, earned.

They booked their wedding with us while we were still living in Porto Alegre, Brazil, during a time when we were planning to move to Lisbon. Plans changed, the move ended up being to Rome, and this became the very first wedding we photographed after arriving in Europe, just one month later.

The wedding took place shortly after Cris and Rodrigo had completed a deeply transformative journey of their own. They had just walked nearly 300 km along the Camino de Santiago de Compostela. A path marked by silence, effort, intention and surrender. Perhaps not by chance, that same spirit shaped everything that followed.

The plan was simple: leave Rome and arrive in Lisbon one day early, with a connection in Marseille. Once there, however, the connection began to be delayed… one hour, two, three… until it was finally marked as cancelled. At the airline counter, the message was clear: the next flight to Lisbon would depart two days later, on the exact day we were supposed to be returning.

While panic set in, Bruna, far more clear-headed in moments of chaos, quietly searched for a solution. That is how she found an alternative: a flight departing from Nice, about 200 km away, at 6 a.m. the following morning. The tickets were booked, and from that moment on, the mission was simply to get there.

A bus to downtown Marseille, a train with a connection in Toulon, delays, a missed connection. The only viable option was to continue by taxi, late at night. We arrived at Nice airport at midnight and slept right there on the floor, our cameras always close. At 4 a.m., we continued the journey. Lisbon, car, Airbnb, coffee, a few hours of rest. By 3 p.m., we were ready for the wedding.

And suddenly, everything made sense.

The day was flawless, and the InterContinental Cascais – Estoril Hotel provided the perfect setting for an intimate elopement in Portugal, complete with a First Look in the garden and a light, genuine atmosphere. During those hours, any memory of the previous chaos simply disappeared. It was emotional.

O Elopement em Portugal da Cris e do Rodrigo aconteceu no dia 16/06/2023, no Hotel InterContinental Cascais – Estoril. O que eles não sabem, e talvez nunca tenham imaginado, é o quanto esse casamento foi, literalmente, conquistado.

Eles fecharam o casamento conosco ainda quando morávamos em Porto Alegre, no Brasil, numa fase em que planejávamos nos mudar para Lisboa. Os planos mudaram, a mudança acabou sendo para Roma e esse se tornou o primeiro casamento que fotografamos desde que chegamos à Europa, apenas um mês depois.

O casamento aconteceu logo após os dois terem vivido uma experiência profundamente transformadora: Cris e Rodrigo haviam acabado de percorrer cerca de 300 km a pé pelo Caminho de Santiago de Compostela. Um percurso de silêncio, esforço, entrega e intenção. E talvez não por acaso, esse mesmo espírito tenha atravessado tudo o que veio depois.

Nossa ideia era simples: sair de Roma e chegar a Lisboa com um dia de antecedência. O plano incluía uma conexão em Marselha. Ao chegar lá, porém, a conexão começou a atrasar… uma hora, duas, três… até aparecer como cancelada. No balcão da companhia aérea, a notícia foi clara: o próximo voo para Lisboa sairia dois dias depois, exatamente no dia em que já estaríamos voltando.

Enquanto o pânico tomava conta, a Bruna, muito mais lúcida em momentos de caos, começou a buscar uma solução como quem salva o mundo em silêncio. Foi assim que encontrou uma alternativa: um voo saindo de Nice, a cerca de 200 km dali, às 6h da manhã do dia seguinte. As passagens foram compradas e o objetivo passou a ser chegar até lá.

Ônibus até o centro de Marselha, trem com conexão em Toulon, atraso, conexão perdida. A única opção viável foi seguir de táxi, já de madrugada. Chegamos ao aeroporto de Nice à meia-noite e dormimos ali mesmo, no chão, com as câmeras sempre por perto. Às 4h da manhã, seguimos viagem. Lisboa, carro, Airbnb, café, algumas horas de descanso. Às 15h, estávamos prontos para o casamento.

E então, tudo fez sentido.

Durante aquelas horas, qualquer lembrança do caos anterior simplesmente desapareceu. Foi emocionante.
